The history of the emergence of the geothermal pump

История появления геотермального насоса

Nowadays, such equipment as a heat pump is gaining more and more popularity, this article was prepared by Ivik, which was the first on the market to introduce a heat pump with high-quality and modern equipment. Read more on the company's website.

When was the heat pump concept developed?

The heat pump concept was developed in 1852 by the eminent engineer and physicist William Thomson (Kelvin), then detailed and refined by engineer Peter Rittinger. Peter Rittinger is considered to be the inventor of heat pumps, as he designed the first ground source heat pump.

But heat pumps acquired practical application much later, at the beginning of the 40s of the twentieth century, at a time when the enthusiastic inventor Robert Weber experimented with the freezer.

Did coincidence help in the design of the heat pump?

Once, Weber accidentally touched the hot pipe while leaving the cell, and realized that the heat was being thrown out. Robert thought about how to use this heat, and decided to install pipes to heat the water in the boiler. As a result, the engineer provided the family with an amount of warm water that was physically impossible to use, and some of the heat from the heated water was dissolved in the air.

This prompted him to think that the only source of heat is capable of heating both air and water at the same time, so Robert improved his apparatus and began running hot water through a coil (in a spiral), and spreading heat through the house using a small fan with the aim of heating.

Who was the founder of the alternative heat from the earth?

It was Weber who was the owner of the idea of "pumping out" the heat from the earth, the temperature of which does not change too much during the year. He placed copper pipes in the ground, through which freon passed, collecting the heat of the earth. The gases condensed, gave their heat to the house, and again passed through the coil, picking up the next portions of heat. The air set the fan in motion, propelling it throughout the house. By the following year, Weber got rid of the old charcoal stove.

In the late 40s, the heat pump became known for its extreme efficiency, although the real need to acquire it arose during the Arab embargo in the 70s, when, despite the low cost of energy, there was an interest in energy conservation. >

During operation, the compressor consumes electricity. The ratio of the generated heat to the consumed electricity is called the transformation ratio (heat conversion), which serves as an indicator of the efficiency of heat pumps. This value is determined from the difference between the levels т
