President Donald Trump, in his draft federal budget for fiscal 2018, plans to increase military spending by $ 54 billion, or nearly 10 percent, White House officials said.

The President intends to keep the spending of two social programs unchanged - the federal retirement insurance program and the Social Security program and Medicare for the oldest Americans. These two programs are the largest contributors to the federal budget, and with the aging of American society, they contribute significantly to the growth of US government debt.
In fiscal 2015, spending on social security programs was $ 888 billion and accounted for 21 percent. The federal budget and Medicare spending totaled $ 546 billion, which was about 15 percent. By comparison, defense spending in fiscal 2015 was $ 602 billion and accounted for 16 percent of the federal budget.
