According to the World Steel Association, 126.6 million tonnes of steel were produced in February, up 4.1 percent from a year earlier. Increased production in China offset the drop in steel output in the European Union and North America
In February, the Chinese produced 61.187 million tons of steel, an increase of 4.6 percent over February last year. India and South Korea increased production to 8.113 million tonnes and 5.508 million tonnes, respectively. Japan kept production almost unchanged at 8.34 million tonnes. Overall, Asia increased production by 5.1 percent.
The European Union produced a total of 13.28 million tons of steel, a decrease of 0.6 percent. In North America, production declined by 1 percent.
China is again the culprit behind the growth in global steel production
