France will go further in its fight to protect the Earth's climate, going beyond its commitments under the December 2015 Paris treaty, government spokesman Christophe Castaner said. The list of specific actions will be ready within 15 days.
This reaction from Paris follows US President Donald Trump's announcement last week of a decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. “The goal of President Emmanuel Macron and Environment Minister Nicolasa Hulota is to go beyond the goals we set for ourselves under the Paris Agreement,” Castaner said after Macron's cabinet meeting.
A list of specific actions presented over the next 15 days indicating how France can exceed its existing commitments. In addition, the French government will prepare a website that is expected to attract researchers and companies interested in innovative activities to combat global warming.
