Outside of China, CRU expects Russia to have the maximum number of aluminum smelters. The most significant among them will be the Taishet project from UC Rusal.
CRU, a leading research and analytics group, has predicted that Russia is likely to add maximum aluminum smelting capacity outside of China. However, China is expected to create the majority of the world's new aluminum smelting capacity.
According to CRU, the global aluminum market saw significant changes in 2017. The supply-side reform policies pursued by the Chinese authorities continued to constrain substantial additions to the country's primary aluminum capacity growth. This year also saw a significant slowdown in Chinese aluminum exports to countries around the world, especially the United States, mainly due to tighter trade restrictions.
Outside of China, CRU expects Russia to have the maximum number of aluminum smelters. The most significant among them will be the Taishet project from UC Rusal. Currently, construction work is in full swing. The planned second phase of the project at a later date will increase the plant's total production capacity to approximately 984,000 tonnes per year.
Russia will soon introduce new plants for the production of aluminum
