At the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich Metinvest Group received a valuable cargo - new equipment for the construction of a continuous casting machine. Equipment from China was delivered to Mariupol by ship DolphinStar for three months.
According to Metinvest, the Chinese equipment will make it possible to produce "premium slabs" using technologies from the Austrian company Primetals Technologies. Continuous billet casting machine (CCM) No. 4 in two strands will pour hot steel from a ladle furnace into billets, then water-cooled in molds. The finished ingot remains cut into pieces - and the semi-finished product is ready for sale or processing into metal products. The unit will produce 2.5 million tons of premium slabs annually. And the enterprise will be able to produce up to 4 million tons of steel billets per year.
Today, at the Ilyich plant, foundations for the machine itself, a ladle furnace have been built, the main metal structures and part of the roof have been mounted. The equipment will be assembled by 350 specialists. They will spend three months on this. It is planned to launch the unit worth 150 million US dollars by the end of this year.
