Trump and Kim - historic meeting in Singapore

Donald Trump, summing up the results of negotiations with the leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un, told reporters: "The meeting was 'very good', we have 'perfect relationship' ... I think it is better than anyone could have expected."

During the private conversation, the leaders were accompanied only by translators. The White House said it lasted 45 minutes.

Trump has expressed his belief that he and Kim will achieve "tremendous success." “It will be a success, it will be done,” Trump said, referring probably to the main topic of the talks, which is the denuclearization of North Korea and the prospects for a peaceful relationship between Washington and Pyongyang.

Kim, who seemed to share Trump's optimism, said he would work with him to address these issues. He also mentioned that he would overcome any skepticism about his meeting with the American president.

“Many people in the world will consider this (...) a form of fantasy (...) from a sci-fi movie,” translator Kim said as he walked with the leaders down the hallway at the luxurious Capella Hotel where the meeting is taking place.

At around 9:50 am local time, Trump and Kim left the room and sat down at a table in the company of other members of both delegations. Next to the American president sat Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and security adviser John Bolton.
