China's steel exports rose to 6.94 million tonnes last month, the highest since July 2017, even after Washington imposed import duties to protect U.S. industries.
June steel output was below 81.13 million tonnes in May, but one day less in June, setting a new average daily production record of 2.67 million tonnes for the third straight month.
The increase in production is also due to the fact that China has closed several factories to help reduce air pollution and intensify environmental inspections, suggesting that the new factories have stepped up profit-making operations.
Monthly plant utilization rates reached 71.6 percent in June, the highest since October before the winter production restrictions came into effect.
Analysts say it is unclear if China will continue its record steel output. Some particularly fashionable cities and provinces also implement special pollution control measures. Last week, the top steel city of Tangshan ordered factories to cut production for 6 weeks during the summer.
