Estimates provided by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicate that in 2018, compared with the previous year, the total steel in the country will fall by 8.5% - 9.4%. Imports of finished steel from Turkey are likely to will decline the most, falling nearly 41% over the previous year. The forecasts are based on steel import data for the first three quarters of this year.
In 2018, AISI projects total steel imports of 34.877 million tonnes per year, down 8.5% from the previous year. In 2017, steel imports into the country amounted to 38.126 million tons. In addition, imports of finished steel are likely to decline from 29.561 million tonnes in 2017 to 26.772 million tonnes in 2018.
