ArcelorMittal lawyers are examining initiatives to avoid the closure of a second blast furnace at the former ILVA steel mill, ordered by the Taranto prosecutor on Tuesday. Lawyers said they have begun "hypothesizing" initiatives, possibly with the consortium that hosted ILVA last year.
Unconfirmed sources said a request could be made to suspend the order from the prosecutor, although the company did not provide any further comment after the prosecutor's order.
The order concerning one of the three blast furnaces of the plant was issued in connection with the death of an employee there in 2015. The Taranto plant, which is being cleaned and remodeled to save jobs and alleviate cancer-related pollution, is the largest in Europe.
