Workers' trade unions have rejected ArcelorMittal's new plan for the former metallurgical group ILVA, which calls for 4,700 layoffs by 2023, including 2,891 immediately.
Italian Industry Minister Stefano Patuanelli said that “he is disappointed with the steps back taken by ArcelorMittal. The government is now promoting its own plan to invest eight million tons to protect jobs. "
ArcelorMittal is trying to pull out of the former ILVA group, including its polluting Taranto plant, the largest steel mill in Europe.
