The products of the Company are used for many spheres of industry, among which a special place belongs to the aviation and space industries. Due to its high technical qualities and properties, the metal of Dneprospetsstal has repeatedly conquered space.
April 12, 1961 - this date can be considered a turning point in the development of science and technology. It was on this day that the first human flight into space in the history of mankind took place. Pilot-cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin flew around the orbit of the globe in 108 minutes.
But for Dneprospetsstal, space history began a little earlier - on October 4, 1957. It was on this day that the world's first artificial Earth satellite PS-1 was launched. Many parts for which were made of special metal. As Leonid Korol, the head of the CPL group, recalls, often orders for the space and aircraft industries came under the heading "secret" and the plant workers themselves did not know for what needs the metal was made.
Dneprospetsstal has mastered unique steel grades that can withstand space loads and perform tasks at low temperatures and high pressure. Such brands as EP810VD, Di52VD, EP678-VD, as well as alloys on a nickel and iron-nickel base, high-temperature alloys EP666VD, EP915Sh and others can be classified as "space" ones. Moreover, many of these alloys are unique.
In the 60s, millions of people around the world watched with bated breath the launch of the Vostok, Energia, Soyuz, Buran spacecraft. And the successful flight of these ships is a great merit of the Zaporozhye metallurgists. After all, it was thanks to knowledge, ultra-precise technologies and perseverance that the parts for these ships were manufactured at the plant.
The Energia carrier rocket has successfully entered the open space. But the successful launch was preceded by two unsuccessful attempts. Due to the rupture of the welded seams of the warhead, the Energia launch vehicle could not reach space heights. This task was entrusted to Dneprospetsstal specialists. Moreover, the factory workers could only guess what project was entrusted to them. After all, all developments were supervised by "people in uniform". The technology proposed by the factory minds allowed the launch vehicle to rise into the sky. After that, the head part and parts of Energia were made of metal under the DSS brand.
The "highlight" of the DSS can be called the production of super-precision instrument bearings, which are obtained by double remelting of the VAR metal. The products are used for the aviation and rocket and space industries.
The great importance of Dneprospetsstal for the space industry is also evidenced by the fact that in different years the plant was visited by cosmonauts Viktor Gorbatko and Vladimir Dzhanibekov.
