BlueScope has confirmed that its IT systems have been affected by a cyber incident that disrupted some of the Company's departments. Plants in North Star, Asia and New Zealand are still virtually subject to minor disruptions.
Manufacturing and trading operations in Australia suffered; some processes have been paused, while other processes, including shipping steel, continue with some manual processes and workarounds. BlueScope CFO T. Archibald said the cyber incident had been detected at a US facility in the United States, and the Company took immediate action to respond to the incident. In the affected areas, the Company has returned to manual operations where possible, while the impact is fully assessed and corrected as needed.
According to media reports, the disruption of IT is believed to be the result of a ransomware infestation affecting the production systems used by its global operations.
