Indian steel companies will raise prices from September onward on higher costs and higher world prices. A Business Standard report citing JSW Steel's director of marketing, commerce and corporate strategy says that “the difference between domestic and international prices is currently around 8 percent. Prices are expected to rise from September. The amount will be determined. "
Mr Acharya also explained that iron ore prices reached a six-year high, and world steel prices also rose in August.
The BS report added: “The increase compared to September could be Rs 2–3,000 per tonne. While a major primary steelmaker said it was projected to increase steel prices by Rs 3,000 per tonne, a secondary steelmaker said it could be Rs 2,000 per tonne. ”
So far, in the second quarter, steel prices have risen by about Rs 3,000 per tonne.
