Denmark refuses to conduct licensing and future tenders for the development of fields in the North Sea
The country's government has decided to completely end exploration and production of oil and gas in the North Sea by 2050, Dan Jorgensen, Minister for Climate and Energy, said. To achieve this goal, the minister said, the country refuses to hold the eighth round of licensing and all future tenders for the development of fields in the North Sea.
“Now we are putting an end to the era of mining,” the minister said.
According to the ministry's estimates, the refusal to hold the tender and the implementation of measures to complete the extraction of hydrocarbons will cost the Danish budget about 13 billion kronor (about $ 2.1 billion).
In December 2019, the Danish parliament adopted a package of measures to combat climate change. According to this act, the current government, like all subsequent governments in Denmark, must reduce the volume of emissions of harmful gases in the country by 70% by 2030, and by 2050, achieve carbon neutrality.
