The USA records a significant increase in the production of untreated steel

Weekly U.S. crude steel production posted a notable 15.7% rise in the week ending April 3, 2021, up from the same week in 2020. This is in line with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute. (AISI).

Weekly US crude steel production was 1.766 million. The domestic sector's capacity utilization rate was 77.9%. It should be noted that production was only NT 1.526 million with a much lower capacity utilization rate of 66.7% during the corresponding week of 2020. Meanwhile, weekly production of crude steel increased slightly over the week by 0.3%. For the week ended March 27, 2021, smelting amounted to 1.760 million.

Cumulative adjusted US crude steel production from the beginning of the year to date was 23.172 million tonnes for the week ended April 3, 2021. This is 4.2% less than production, which was 24.185 million tonnes in the same period in 2020. The indicator also recorded a noticeable jump from 79% to 77% over the year.

The leading producer was the Southern region with a production volume of 742 thousand tons. Production in the Great Lakes region for the week amounted to 610 thousand tons. Production for the rest of the regions (in thousands of net tonnes) is as follows: Northeast-159, Midwest-184 and West-71.
