According to statistics from the Italian steel industry association Federacciai, in the first eight months of this year, Italy's crude steel production was over 16.3 million tonnes, up 27.5% over the same period last year. Production of long products increased by 32.8% year-on-year to 9 million tonnes, and flat products increased by 15% to about 7 million tonnes.
In August alone, steel production in Italy was about 1.4 million tonnes, an increase of 44.3% year on year. Production of long products increased by 22.2% to 594,000 tonnes, flat products - by 17% to 554,000 tonnes.
