Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced that the World Trade Organization (WTO) has set up a Dispute Settlement Commission on September 27 over China's Anti-Dumping Measures (AD) against Japanese stainless products.
The Chinese government has introduced AD measures on Japanese stainless steel products since July 2019. In July, Japan tried to consult with China, but the problem was still not resolved. Therefore, Japan applied to the WTO with a request to establish a dispute settlement commission on this issue on 19 August.
The WTO will review China's AD measures to determine if China's policies are in line with the WHO agreement. If the WTO finds that China's actions were in violation of WTO rules, China will be asked to correct it. If China is not satisfied with the decision, it can also file a complaint with the WTO.
