The Oris watch company is one of the few companies with a century-long history of success. The prototype of this company was a watch workshop founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Paul Caten and Georg Christian in a small Swiss town. The name of the brand was given by a small river of the same name, Oris, on which, in fact, the workshop was located.
Like many other well-known watch companies today, Oris began its activity not from production, but from the repair of watches, and only after a lapse of time the workshop turned into a factory producing chronometers, where the best Swiss watchmakers of that time worked.
The main goal of the founders of the company was to make their factory famous all over the world, producing inexpensive watches with an original movement. For the manufacture of cases of products in Oris high-quality materials with gilding and crystal or sapphire glasses, which made them more resistant to various mechanical damage. For the manufacture of straps, both exotic leather (shark, crocodile, ostrich) and widespread (veal) leather were used.
At the end of the 30s, the company released a special watch model - with a hand calendar display, which was extremely convenient and therefore caused universal recognition, and brought wide popularity to the factory. In addition, Oris became famous for being the first to manufacture alarm clocks. By the way, the impetus for the creation of such a mechanism was the regular lateness of workers for production in the morning, which inevitably entailed a decrease in productivity.
After the war, the company presented to the public the first waterproof watches of its production, which are still very popular all over the world.
Today, Oris produces models, a wide range of which is here , in three thematic areas - aviation, cultural (a separate place in the collections of this style is dedicated to jazz) and sports (by the way, Oris is one of the official sponsors of Formula 1 races). Among the products there are both ordinary classic mechanical watches with an alarm clock, as well as chronometers displaying all calendar information - days of the week, dates, lunar phases and even a second time zone. Oris loyal customers include celebrities such as Meg Ryan, Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford and many more.
