Thus, the Azovstal Metallurgical Plant, located in the city of Mariupol, solves the problem of reducing the pollution of the Azov Sea. Azovstal will ship its waste to the nearby MMK im. Ilyich, who is also part of the vertically integrated Metinvest Group.
This decision was made with the assistance of local environmental services and the city administration. The sludge will serve as a raw material for the production needs of the metallurgical plant named after Ilyich. Transportation will be carried out by slag carriers produced by DTS (Ukrainian company Dneprotechservice). The local newspaper "Illichivets" reports that the chemical composition of the wastewater involved in the production cycle complies with the established environmental standards. And the water that gets to the plant from the Sea of Azov allegedly contains even more pollution.
Environmental actions carried out by local activists resulted in the Azovstal plant reducing harmful emissions into the waters of the Azov basin by almost 25 percent. Members of the public examined the sedimentation tanks and concluded that their condition is satisfactory and does not pose a serious threat to the environment. The laboratory data of the plant confirm that the content of harmful elements in wastewater discharged into water bodies is 15 mg /l-36 mg /l, which corresponds to the standards adopted for metallurgical enterprises for the special use of water resources.
We would like to remind that Metinvest Group has a wide network of enterprises in Europe, Ukraine and the USA, engaged in the extraction of raw materials, the production of semi-finished products and metallurgical products, which has sales markets all over the world.
