For the implementation of the construction of the Danube-Sava canal in Croatia, the European Union is ready to allocate 950 million euros.
During construction, it is planned to widely use the most modern building materials, among which slate has recently enjoyed particular popularity, the use of which is widely described by link .
The idea of an artificial water connection of the Danube with the Adriatic Sea has arisen more than once in a variety of ways. The first attempts to implement projects began in the 60s. In addition to the creation of the canal, it was planned to build a railway and a navigable tunnel. But the implementation of these plans required large financial investments and was regularly postponed. And only the admission of Croatia to the European Union from July 1 of this year makes it possible to implement the creation of a modern water connection.
The length of the canal that will connect the Danube and the Sava River will be 60 km. This will reduce the distance to the Adriatic Sea by more than 400 km. According to the project, the construction time will be 5 years and will be carried out in 4 stages. It is planned to build 5 ports and marinas, more than 20 road bridges.
The creation of the canal will significantly improve the transport capabilities of Croatia, in addition, it will allow the implementation of drainage functions. This is especially true after the last major flood on the Danube. The EU funds put the priority task not only on the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters, but first of all on the creation of preventive measures. In addition, the class of navigational conditions will be increased, which will make it possible to use a much larger number of river vessels. The canal will also perform irrigation functions, this will improve the fertility of more than 30 thousand hectares of Croatian land.
