Mariupol Metallurgical Combines named after Ilyich and Azovstal of Metinvest Group reported to the Chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration and the public on the fulfillment of public environmental obligations. Pavel Kirilenko noted that, in accordance with public obligations, the enterprises carry out the modernization according to the schedule.
Among the major completed projects: decommissioned blast furnace No. 1, coke oven batteries No. 5, 6, 7 and sinter plant at MK Azovstal, LPC-1700 heating wells at Ilyich Iron and Steel Works and outdated open-hearth production at two enterprises. Projects for the reconstruction of the aspiration systems of the blast-furnace, converter and lime-burning shops of metallurgical plants are underway.
At the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, a number of projects have reached the final stage. The commissioning of the modern aspiration system for the ferroalloy crusher, as well as the new aspiration systems for the ladle furnace of the converter shop is nearing completion. At the finish line modernization of blast furnace No. 3.
“We have a developed schedule of environmental activities and a schedule for fulfilling our public environmental obligations. The implementation of environmental projects is a strategic task from which we do not retreat a single step, ”said Andrey Savchenko, director for labor protection, industrial safety and ecology at Azovstal Iron and Steel Works.
The second stage of the sinter plant reconstruction is at the completion stage at the Ilyich Iron and Steel Works. By the end of the year, the company will complete construction and put into operation bag filters with a desulfurization system in the sintering zone of sintering machines No. 1-6 and the cooling zone of sintering machines No. 10-12. And by the end of 2020, the project for the reconstruction of the sinter plant's gas purifiers will be completed in full.
“Metinvest Group is a consistent company in its actions. We promised residents to go to pure metallurgy and we keep our word. At the end of next year, the smoke of the sinter plant, which has been going on every day for 50 years, will be minimized, it can be said that it will practically stop, ”said Taras Shevchenko, General Director of the Ilyich Steel Plant.
At the meeting, the leaders also discussed a number of problematic issues. One of them is the lack of qualified designers in the service market, so the company has to rely only on its own resources. The second important issue is the environmental tax, which is transferred to the state and regional budgets to a greater extent, and does not remain in the city where enterprises operate.
“The state should help industry in solving various issues, including taxes. When it comes to modernization, I see that businesses are on schedule and meet public commitments.
