When is a diesel generator preferable to a gasoline unit
For domestic use, it is preferable to choose a generator equipped with a gasoline engine for the following reasons:
- less unit weight for the same power output;
- low noise;
- no diesel odor;
- independent of temperature conditions.
The last point is relevant in harsh climatic conditions. As a rule, household generators are used outdoors, which at low temperatures can lead to freezing of diesel fuel, if its winter version is not used.
It is also necessary to take into account the approximate service life. The fact is that a gasoline engine operates at 3000 rpm, while for a diesel engine this figure is 1500. Accordingly, their resource will be different.
If the question concerns the power supply of industrial facilities, then it is optimal to focus on a diesel unit, due to its unpretentiousness and high reliability. The diesel engine is undemanding to the quality of the fuel, with the exception of the ambient temperature, and in some cases works great on low-quality fuel mixtures.
Almost any industrial power supply requires three phases. In most cases, three-phase diesel generators can provide this.
The essential point is the equipment launching system. For domestic use, manual start units are ideal. For industrial consumers, it is recommended to choose or additionally equip a generator with automatic input to the reserve. Installation of the ATS unit allows you to reduce to a minimum the time interval of power outages. And the corresponding software excludes the participation of maintenance personnel in the startup process.
Thus, we can summarize. For a private house, the best option would be a unit equipped with a gasoline engine, and for industrial consumers it is better to stay with a diesel generator with an automatic commissioning system.
