Binding materials are used to form book cases, endpapers and covers of printed products. They are irreplaceable in the manufacture of exclusive publications, add charm, sophistication and raise the status in the eyes of the consumer. With the development of book printing, the skill of creating bindings has improved. Today it is not just a way to think over a reliable cover that protects from negative external factors, but also a real art of decoration.
Types of binding materials
There is a huge variety of materials available for binding. Among the most popular are:
- Artificial and natural leather. Usually it is goatskin or loose clothing. There are more budgetary synthetic options that lend themselves to staining, due to which they acquire a noble look.
- Flocked raw materials. Dainel SG, Lynel Fur SG with imitation animal skin are distinguished. Also pay attention to the Dutch products Flock Velours, a copy of the classic velvet textiles. This is a quality flocked paper suitable for bookbinding and luxury packaging.
- Design paper. It differs in texture, color, may have an extraordinary decoration in the form of an author's drawing.
- Stopper. Such products look unusual and original, especially if the design concerns printed materials about wine products, eco products, nature.
- Textiles. Often we are talking about satin, canvas, silk and velvet. The fabrics are ideal for making romantic works, lyric compositions, poetry collections. Calico and lederin are also used on a fabric basis
- Cardboards of various brands: matrix, box, plain and lacquered press, bristol, multi-colored multilayer, brown wood mass.
Combined binding materials are no less common. Composite binding made of several pieces of different textured leather looks beautiful. Combinations of different fabrics are also beneficial, such as designer paper and velor, leather, velvet and marbled paper.
When forming bindings, captal, gauze, sewing threads are used for fastening. For embossing - special foil, leaf, bronze, aluminum, gold leaf. The glue can be different, for example, starch, PVA, latex, hot melt, casein, polyacrylamide or dextrin.
