Which spray gun to choose for painting a car?

Какой краскопульт выбрать для покраски авто?

The quality of the result of painting a car only partially depends on the skills and experience of the auto painter. In addition to the professionalism of the master, an important role is played by the equipment used for applying auto enamel. A spray gun for painting a car is one of the important elements that affect the quality of the final result. How to choose the right equipment for painting? What spray guns are there? And what to look for when choosing? First things first.

How the spray gun works

Spray guns are manual (mechanical) and electric, but the most popular equipment for painting is a pneumatic spray gun, which works in conjunction with a compressor that supplies air under pressure. The design of modern spray guns is quite simple. They consist of:

  1. The pistol is the main part of the structure, uniting the rest of the unit. There is a special fitting on the pistol handle, where the hose from the compressor is connected. Valves are installed at the back to adjust the paint flow and torch shape.
  2. Needles (metal cone-shaped rod), responsible for controlling the supply of paints and varnishes to the nozzle.
  3. Tank - container for auto enamel;
  4. A nozzle that is an intermediate link between the needle and the air cap. Responsible for the size of the spray paint.
  5. An air cap through which paints are sprayed.

Additionally, a reducer (between the compressor hose and the nozzle), consisting of a pressure regulator and a manometer, can be installed on the spray gun. Used to fine tune the tool.

The principle of operation of a pneumatic spray gun is quite simple: autoenamel is poured into the tank, which, under the pressure of compressed air, is directed to the air cap, where it is sprayed onto the painted surface. By adjusting the paint valves, pressure and torch size, you can adjust the intensity, abundance and speed of paint spraying.

Benefits of using a pneumatic spray gun

Compared to other painting equipment, the pneumatic spray gun has several significant advantages, including:

  • ergonomic and simple design;
  • Usually pneumatic spray guns have a sufficient margin of safety, which makes them resistant to overload;
  • modern spray guns have a wide range of settings and show high speed and good paint quality;
  • with this hardware enough
