One of the most important points of recommended maintenance is changing the oil in the gearbox. It should be carried out periodically, as indicated in the technological maps and instructions for the car. Of course, in no case should you choose another oil according to your preferences - for this there are regulated reasonable standards that are very important for correct operation. The choice of oil depends on the type of gearbox, engine power rating and other parameters.
There are two main types of gearboxes - mechanical (manual transmission) and automatic (automatic transmission). MOT regulates oil change in manual transmission and automatic transmission, for which it is worth replacing the gasket and filter.
Replacement frequency
How often to change the oil in the box? A question that becomes relevant especially for a driver who does not have much experience in operating a car, in such a situation it is better to contact auto parts store just to be sure. If there are no instructions on the timing of replacement, it is worth replacing the transmission fluid after 40-60 thousand kilometers. For an automatic transmission there are ATF oils, for a mechanical one - MTF. Of course, you cannot partially add another oil - mixing is completely contraindicated. If the driver uses the vehicle frequently and intensively, all the terms change. Before starting an oil change, it is important to understand which type is used in a particular car.
Gearbox fluids are divided into the following types:
- mineral oil, which must be changed after 30-40 thousand km;
- semi-synthetic with additives is recommended to be changed after no more than 50 thousand km of run;
- synthetics - oil with a large amount of additives, used for an automatic transmission, replaced after 50-60 thousand km in an automatic transmission, and if used in a mechanical box - 60-80 thousand km.
However, when operating a car, each driver learns that for his particular model, his own oil change frequency is regulated. And for an automatic transmission it is worth implementing some principles, and for mechanics - others.
Changing fluids in automatic transmissions and manual transmissions
The known interval of 40-50 thousand kilometers of a car's mileage can, of course, vary, and many factors affect the state of the liquid in the box. There are two ways to change the transmission fluid in an automatic transmission:
- incomplete ATF replacement (in this case, the oil is not completely drained, usually half);
- complete fluid change (important for cars with high mileage or if difficulties arise during gear changes).
