With the right choice, they suit almost any interior. Curtains on eyelets differ from other models in a very peculiar way of hanging. The cornice is threaded through the rings fixed directly into the fabric. When the window is hung, large soft folds are produced.
What are eyelets
Eyelets classify:
- Fit. Most often they are round, less often oval. Sometimes on sale you can find square, rectangular, triangular;
- By material. In the vast majority of cases, it is either plastic or metal. Metal eyelets have increased strength and are much more durable than plastic ones, they are able to hold even a very heavy curtain. Plastic rings are cheaper than metal rings and come in a variety of colors;
- Fit to size. When choosing it, one should take into account the diameter of the curtain rod and the weight of the curtain. Do not take the rings close to the bar section. It is necessary that at least not much, but it was wider, otherwise the eyelets will constantly get stuck when moving. Regarding the weight of the curtain, the heavier it is, the larger the rings should be.
Things to consider when using eyelet curtains
Only round cornices are suitable. The profile rings will simply not be able to move normally.
There should be enough space for folds in the eaves. If you want to hang the curtain not on the first rod, but on the second, then make sure that the distance between them is at least 10 cm, otherwise the folds will simply flatten out on the upper rod of the cornice. As a way out, you can use eyelet brackets for cornices.
If possible, contact specialized workshops to install eyelets on the curtain. You can also put them on yourself, with a hammer, but there is a great risk of ruining not only the ring, but also the curtain itself.
Floor-length curtains on eyelets look best. With other options, only an experienced designer can achieve a beautiful window design.
The Grommet Myth
The first of them says that the curtains on the eyelets make a lot of noise. In fact, the sound is, of course, emitted when the curtain is being hung (especially for metal rings), but you cannot call it strong or annoying. If you move the curtains carefully, you can hardly hear it.
The second myth concerns the fact that the fabric for the eyelets must be very carefully selected. In reality, you can buy suitable eyelets for almost any curtain, since the assortment is very wide.
