Cranes are the backbone of any large construction and have a high lifting capacity. The main load is distributed so that the crane retains its functionality, which is helped by the presence of crane wheels.
Crane wheels ensure the movement of the crane, while withstanding a huge load, which significantly increases their wear. This feature is a costly part of the operation of such expensive equipment. Crane wheels, the price of which usually corresponds to the quality of materials required for their production, require careful selection, combined with the experience of their installation, in order to avoid breakdowns and additional repairs.
Today there is a choice among the varieties of such parts. According to their shape, they can be divided into: cylindrical and conical. They are also classified according to the number of flanges: double flange, flangeless and single flange (with a special cylindrical rim) wheels. Basically, these models differ in the size of the inner diameter of the hub. At the same time, wheels with a tapered rim are designed to move the crane along curved paths, and they require the use of crane rails KR and R. This allows you to reduce the resistance when the crane moves along the rail tracks.
Half of all crane wheels are driven, which are directly connected to the movement mechanism and provide the driven wheels, such a system allows you to evenly distribute the load and move the crane to the desired location in accordance with all safety requirements.
When preparing wheels for a crane, metalworking of steel is used in the form of stamping or forging. If the manufacturing took place by casting, then further mechanical surface treatment will be required.
The process of installing the wheel is carried out when fastened with a gear or a flange. These parts are mounted on a wheel shaft or, in some cases, on a ring gear attached to the rim.
When purchasing wheels for a crane, you need to ensure proper care for them during operation. For careful maintenance, it is necessary to select the wheels so that the difference in their diameter is minimal. To reduce wear, they use laying under the sole of the rails of the conveyor belt for smooth movement of the crane. In addition, correct adjustment of the brakes is equally important in order to avoid distortions when starting and braking the crane, as well as damage to the crane runways.
