Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, during a meeting with the head of China's railways Sheng Guangzu, discussed the prospects for further relations in the field of railway transportation and transport. The meeting took place as part of Dmitry Medvedev's official visit to Beijing.
Both sides noted the importance of the program of international container transportation to Europe from Western China, determined by the memorandum of cooperation signed in September 2013 between the representative office of the Chinese Railways and Russian Railways. At this stage, the program provides for strengthening the control of rolling stock, the condition of the railway bed up to sleepers impregnated with coal oil.
The leaders defined a plan for the development of railway communication from China to Europe through the Northern Logistics System, which unites transit traffic in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Mongolia. The main point of further cooperation is to increase the speed of movement. The solution to this issue is entrusted to specialists from Russia, China and the states on whose territory container trains operate. They will be part of a special group that should take measures to increase the speed of rail links.
The parties confirmed their mutual readiness to speed up the transition to electronic exchange of information in the course of railroad transportation of goods between China and Russia. In addition, a decision was made to jointly reform the railway industry based on the experience gained in the process of cooperation, which should be reflected in a new agreement between the operators of the Russian and Chinese railways.
