Every year a person moves more and more away from nature. Modern interiors contain a lot of artificial materials, which, of course, affects the well-being and attitude of people living in the house. One of the surest ways to bring natural balance back into your life is to build a home fireplace. Live fire will fill the home with new positive energy and will become a real trump card for any interior.
Types of fireplaces
Fireplaces differ according to several criteria. First of all, it is a type of firebox. According to this parameter, open and closed fireplaces are distinguished. The choice here depends on what functions are assigned to this hearth. As a rule, open-type fireplaces are installed if the aesthetic side of the process is important. Such hearths are stacked mainly of brick or stone, leaving the firebox open so that the fire can be seen. With this shape of the hearth, the heat emitted during the combustion of the fuel is almost completely escaped through the chimney. Therefore, if it is necessary that the fireplace not only decorate the room, but also serve as a source of heat, you will have to opt for a closed type of hearth. This design provides for the presence of heat-resistant glass, which covers the firebox, it allows you to observe the tongues of flame, but at the same time isolates the fire from the space of the room.
Some manufacturers produce a combined type of fireplaces. A similar heat source can be used as a closed fireplace, but if desired, the damper can be removed, turning it into an open hearth.
Fuel for fireplaces
The second, no less important characteristic of modern fireplaces is the type of fuel thanks to which they work. According to this feature, there are:
- Wood burning fireplaces are traditional hearths that are heated with ordinary wood. These were previously installed in almost every country house. Today, not everyone can afford such a heat source, because its construction will require the organization of a full-fledged chimney, which implies complex and expensive work.
- Gas fireplaces are the most common type of fireplaces today. Here the fire burns at the expense of a gas burner, which is disguised as an ordinary firebox. This fireplace is much more convenient and economical than usual, which is why owners of modern country cottages prefer it.
- Electric fireplaces - they can be installed even in apartments of multi-storey buildings. The flame in such a hearth is artificial, although visually it is very similar to the real one. They are valued for their availability and safety.
The fireplace is a source of comfort in the house, it is so pleasant to sit next to it on long winter evenings, especially if there are relatives and friends nearby.
