Considering the numerous complaints from residents of the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region, about the congestion of city roads, Metinvest decided to abandon the use of trucks for the transportation of metal rolling to the trade port. As a result, freight traffic with a capacity of about 200 thousand tons per month will be transferred to the railway, which will improve the condition of city roads.
Ilyich Iron and Steel Works added two modern TEM-18 DM locomotives to its railway fleet, which cost Metinvest UAH 24 million. The new locomotives were produced at the Bryansk Diesel Locomotive Plant. Their purchase is timed to coincide with the Day of the Railwayman. The locomotives are characterized by increased maneuverability thanks to a microprocessor control system. In addition, an economical engine will significantly reduce fuel costs.
In order to ensure the efficient operation of railway transport, the Ilyich Combine plans to invest 25 million hryvnias by the end of this year, which will be sent for the overhaul of 9 diesel locomotives and the further renewal of the locomotive fleet. Within the framework of the developed program, it is planned to purchase 3 more new locomotives in 2014 and continue the repair campaign, for this it is planned to allocate UAH 50 million.
Ensuring uninterrupted and well-coordinated production activities of the railway sector is the key to the efficient operation of the entire plant, since the transportation of rolled metal is the most important stage. Ilyich Iron and Steel Works intends to renew the entire rolling stock over the next few years, as stated by Yuri Zinchenko, General Director of the Ilyich Plant.
