Thyssenkrupp Materials Services has developed an artificial intelligence platform that digitizes the nesting process (intelligent placement of blanks on sheet metal) and the pricing process.
The platform is called smart.processing and is integrated into the new online store of Max Cochius, a subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Schulte and a leading supplier of metal products in Germany. Max Cochius customers can now purchase material in any free form they desire, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from anywhere in the world. By arranging workpieces in the best possible way, smart.processing minimizes material consumption and therefore costs, says tk Materials.
According to the company, telephone inquiries, as well as manual calculations of prices for workpieces and quotations, are still common in the distribution of materials. The smart.processing artificial intelligence platform ensures that customers can now get prices for their workpieces in seconds and make purchases online. The complexity of the shape is not an obstacle to automated price calculation: any shape is possible, from pipes and sheets to completely personalized freeforms.
