Principle 1: more light and space
The first thing to do when creating an elegant and functional kitchen design is to maximize room with light and spaciousness. To illuminate the room, you will need several artificial light sources in addition to daylight. In addition to ceiling chandeliers, local lamps and bulbs built into furniture, niches or floors are always appropriate here. To add more daylight, you can replace a regular window with a wall-to-wall screen (if the building design allows it). It is better to leave a small window unadorned so as not to create a feeling of intimacy.
Principle 2: play of color and texture
Despite the fact that minimalism does not accept sharp color contrasts and colorfulness, you can add expressiveness to the kitchen by correctly combining the main palette with textures. As the name of the style suggests, minimalism disapproves of lush and catchy ornamentation. But this does not mean at all that the interior design of apartments should be deprived of originality. For example, textured wall decoration, small photographs in the simplest frames, plain flower vases or open shelves for glasses often become a decoration of the kitchen. Curtains with bright prints and bows, towel hooks, posters on the walls and other accessories acceptable for other styles are simply inappropriate in minimalism.
