Welding wire (SP) is one of the consumables for automatic or semi-automatic welding of metal structures, as well as a workpiece for the manufacture of electrodes. The following requirements are imposed on the joint venture:
- ease of starting the arc and the stability of its burning,
- uniformity of melting,
- no spatter when welding,
- the same thickness of the slag layer on the entire surface of the seam,
- easy separation of the slag layer.
Depending on the structure of the joint venture, it happens:
- solid,
- powder,
- activated.
A continuous SP has a structure with the same physical and chemical properties at each point. The use of different alloys for its production allows you to reliably weld various metal materials.
Powder joint venture has a cylindrical structure, the inner cavity of which is filled with powder of various compositions (depending on the properties of the metal being welded). Moreover, the weight of such filler can reach 40% of the weight of the wire.
The activated SP also contains powder additives in its structure, but their weight in the total weight of the product does not exceed 7%. They are pressed into the metal structure of the welding wire in the form of thin wicks (their concentration in the central channel is also possible).
From the marking of the joint venture, you can find the following information:
- diameter (first digits, in millimeters),
- purpose (Np or Sv, respectively, deposited or welding),
- carbon concentration (hundredths of a percent),
- alloying additives and their concentration (H, X, etc., respectively, nickel, chromium, etc.),
- purity (A, AA).
The main advantage of using a joint venture is the ability to mechanize welding. This reduces labor intensity, increases speed and ensures continuity of welding, and improves weld quality, which directly results in increased productivity.
