A metallurgical mini-plant is planned to be built in Monchegorsk

In Monchegorsk, they intend to build a metallurgical mini-plant, which will be based on the base of the Monchegorsk Mechanical Plant (MMZ), which has long ceased to operate. It is planned that the key activity of the mini-plant will be the production of grinding balls, the diameter of which will vary in the range of 20 - 120 mm (from 1 to 5 hardness groups). These balls are used in the ore dressing process to grind them. Thanks to the opening of the mini-plant, the government expects to satisfy the need for grinding balls, which is present in the mining and metallurgical sector of the region, and if there is demand, cement and gold mining enterprises operating in other regions of the country.

Yuri Gushchin, who is the director of the future mini-plant, noted that the production of grinding balls is not the only area of ​​activity. The plant's capacities will also be focused on the production of long products from different grades of steel to meet the needs of the shipbuilding and mechanical engineering sectors and reinforcing bars for the construction industry.

In accordance with the terms of the decree of the government of the Murmansk region dated 10.09.2014, the investment project "Construction of a mini-metallurgical plant for the production of grinding balls in Monchegorsk", which was submitted for consideration by MMZ, received priority status. And within 30 days from the date of the adoption of this resolution, the regional administration, together with MMZ, should develop a draft agreement on state support. On the day when the agreement is signed, the project providing for the construction of a mini-plant specializing in the production of grinding balls will be included in the Register of Investment Projects of the Region.
