African Minerals sees no problem for its iron ore project in Sierra Leone due to the quarantine in this area
September 19, Sierra Leone. Africa's largest mining company African Minerals believes that the three-day strict quarantine that has imposed its iron ore capacity in Sierra Leone will not have a significant impact on production as a whole. The quarantine was introduced to curb the further spread of Ebola in the region.
The 75 percent stake in the Tonkolili Iron iron ore developer said the project operations were not affected by the Ebola outbreak. The Chinese partner Shandong Iron and Steel Group (Shandong) owns the remaining 25 percent of the project.
The West African country plans to restrict residents' access to their homes for three days from September 19, hoping to halt the further deterioration of the spread of Ebola, as well as help health workers track down people suffering from the disease.
Ebola, a contagious, hemorrhagic fever that was first identified in eastern Guinea in March. Since then, the fever has claimed more than 2,400 lives, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The deadly disease kills 9 out of 10 people infected in the region. The situation is complicated by the fact that the local population hides the cases of infection and thus contributes to the spread of Ebola.
