According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, steel production by 65 member countries smelted 134.956 million tonnes in August this year, up 1.4 percent over the same month the previous year.
The total volume of crude steel production in the EU-28 countries in August this year amounted to 12.070 million tons, which is slightly higher than in August 2013. The growth reached only 0.4 percent. Other European countries produced 3.095 million tonnes of steel, up 13.4 percent from 2.728 million tonnes in August 2013.
Steel production in the CIS countries decreased by 6.5 percent compared to 8.546 million tons. Total crude steel production in North America rose 2.0 percent from 10.299 million tonnes in August 2013 to 10.509 million tonnes in August this year.
Crude steel production in the South American region fell 0.8 percent in August to 4.022 million tonnes. African countries smelted 1.535 million tonnes of steel, an increase of 23.5 percent from 1.243 million tonnes achieved in August 2013. Total crude steel production in the Middle East during August this year reached 2.250 million tonnes, up 2.0 percent from August 2013.
Asian steel production rose 1.7 percent from 90.925 million tons last year to 92.511 million tons. Oceania's total crude steel production fell 13.1 percent from 0.482 million tonnes in August 2013 to 0.419 million tonnes in August this year.
