According to the latest data released by the World Steel Association, steel production in Asia increased by 1.7 percent during August on an annualized basis.
China's total crude steel production in August reached 68.910 million tonnes, up 1.0 percent from 68.228 million tonnes in August 2013. India produced 7.027 million tonnes of steel, up 5.2 percent from the 6.678 million tonnes achieved in August 2013.
Japan reported a slight increase in monthly crude steel output in August. Steel production in Japan increased from 9.150 million tons in August 2013 to 9.349 million tons in the same month in 2014.
South Korea's crude steel production increased significantly in August 2014. The increase was 8.0 percent from 4.894 million tons in August 2013 to 5.285 million tons in August this year. Steel output by Taiwan Steel in August fell 1.8 percent to 1.940 million tons, compared with 1.975 million tons in the same month last year.
Cumulative steel production in the first eight months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013 in China amounted to 550,100 (2.6 percent growth), India - 55,566 (1.8 percent growth), Japan - 73,880 (1.0 percent growth). ), South Korea - 47,264 (up 8.6 percent), Taiwan - 15,011 (down 0.4 percent).
