Global steel production declines slightly

According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, steel production in September of the 65 member countries was 134.421 million tons, down 0.1 percent from production in the same month of the previous year.

The total production of crude steel in the EU-28 countries in September this year was 14.125 million tons, down 1.7 percent from September 2013. Other European countries smelted 3.090 million tonnes of steel, down 2.2 percent from 3.159 million tonnes of steel production in September 2013. CIS steel production fell 6.8 percent to 8.230 million tons from 8.827 million tons last year.

Crude steel output in North America in September this year rose 1.1 percent from 9.960 million tonnes in September 2013 to 10.065 million tonnes. Total crude steel production in the South American continent fell 3.4 percent in September this year to 3.800 million tonnes. African countries produced 1.167 million tonnes of steel, down 10.8 percent from 1.309 million tonnes achieved in September 2013.

Total crude steel production in the Middle East reached 2.335 million tonnes during September this year, up 8.4 percent from September 2013. Asian steel production increased 0.9 percent to 91.205 million tonnes. Oceania's total crude steel production fell 10.2 percent to 0.404 million tonnes in September this year.
