NLMK Group, a leading Russian manufacturer of rolled steel and high value-added products, has completed the modernization of its 2000 hot strip mill with a capacity of 5.7 million tonnes of rolled steel per year.
The project involved the modernization of the take-off roller table, the equipment used to transport hot rolled products from the rolling mill to the coiling equipment. The investments in the project amounted to about 800 million rubles.
The introduction of new technical solutions contributed to the creation of an integrated speed control system and an increase in mill productivity by almost 45 thousand tons per year. In addition, it has made it possible to significantly improve the quality of the rolled product surface and its mechanical properties. The use of new materials has provided an opportunity to quadruple the operational reliability of the main elements of the new equipment, as well as to reduce the cost of its maintenance by 50 percent.

In addition, at the Lipetsk site, tests are underway for 8 stands of bell-type cold rolling furnaces and preparatory work for the installation of 15 more stands, the tests of which are planned to be carried out in the second half of 2015. As part of the modernization of rolling production, the production of cold-rolled steel will increase by 30 percent.
