According to media reports, Dubai municipal authorities are giving away nearly 40 kilograms of gold this week, worth more than $ 1.5 million, to citizens who have lost at least two kilograms of their weight as part of a weight loss program. According to the 2014 rules, residents of Dubai who lost more than two kilograms of weight earned one gram of gold for each kilogram. However, a unique innovation this year was that families who lost weight together earned two grams of gold per kilogram.

In 2013, the main winner in Dubai lost 26 kilograms of weight, however, according to reports, this record will be broken this year. True, the winner of the weight loss in 2014 will have to wait until December, as the municipality had to postpone the awards ceremony in order to collect complete information and a sufficient amount of gold. Since the program, which ran from July 15 to September 15, significantly exceeded the results of the previous year, when the city donated just over 17 kilograms of gold.

“There are a lot more winners this year than last year,” said Dubai Municipality manager Walid Al Shaybani in an interview. Al Shaybani also clarified that there are a large number of people who have lost almost 30 kilograms of weight.
