The latest report from the Association of North American Steel Manufacturers (AISI) shows that steel shipments were down 1.3 percent in September 2014 from the previous month. However, shipments in September this year were up 6.3 percent from the same month in the previous year.
Shipments from US steel mills totaled 8,372,929 tons in September, down 1.3 percent from a total shipment of 8,480,954 tons in August, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute. On the other hand, shipments of steel products in September increased significantly over the year. Steel shipments during the month were up 6.3 percent in September 2014, compared to shipments of 7,879,747 tons in September 2013.
In the United States, sea-borne steel shipments rose 3.1 percent year-over-year to 74,124,000 tonnes, up from 71,899,000 tonnes shipped in the corresponding nine months of 2013.
Steel products that showed significant changes in shipping during the month of September compared to the previous month - galvanized sheets and strips (up 5.0 percent), hot-rolled sheets (1 percent down), and cold-rolled sheets (down 3 percent) 0 percent).
