According to statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF), exports of hot rolled coils (HRC) from the country increased sharply during September of this year.
Treasury data show that HRC exports from Japan totaled 990,601 tonnes during the month, up 11.9 percent from exports in the same month last year. Exports of HRC in September 2013 amounted to 885,255 tons. Compared to the previous month, the country's exports decreased slightly. In September 2014, the decline was 2.9 percent, while in August this year, HRC exports amounted to 1,020,000 tons.
HRC export prices during September this year averaged $ 568.70 per tonne. Average prices fell 0.4 percent from the previous month. At an annual rate, HRC's average export prices are down 1.7 percent from last September.
The largest export destination for Japanese-made hot-rolled coils was South Korea. Exports to South Korea amounted to 212,603 tons at an average price of $ 550.50 per tonne FOB. China was the second largest importer of Japanese HRCs. Exports to China amounted to 77,059 tons. The average export price to China was $ 602.60 per tonne FOB.
