Russian export of stainless steel in 1-3 quarters of 2014

According to the latest revised data provided by the Association of Consumers and Suppliers of Special Steels and Alloys, the volume of Russian exports of stainless steel products from January to September 2014 compared to the same period in 2013 fell by 65.3 percent to 6,927 tons.

In particular, the export of stainless steel plates decreased by 32.0 percent and amounted to 1476 tons, long products by 21.4 percent to 3353 tons. Exports of stainless wire were down 21 percent, welded pipes fell 68.9 percent to 1,321 tonnes, and slabs and ingots dropped 94.3 percent to 682 tonnes. At the same time, exports of seamless pipes rose 4.7 percent to 1,321 tons.

According to statistics released by the Special Steels Association, the country's crude stainless steel production totaled 71,600 tonnes during the first nine months of 2014, down 22.6 percent from the same period last year.

At the same time, the production of stainless long products decreased by 5 percent; the output of hot-rolled products decreased by 35.8 percent; the output of cold-rolled products decreased by 58.6 percent, all data are given in comparison with the indicators for the corresponding period last year. The main reason for the decline in the production of stainless products is weak demand in the domestic and foreign markets.
