World steel production in October 2014 remained at the level of the previous year

According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, steel output from the 65 member countries was 136.738 million tonnes in October this year, almost unchanged from production in the same month of the previous year.

The total steel production of the EU-28 countries during October this year reached 14.897 million tons, which is 1.5 percent higher than the 14.678 million tons in October 2013. Other European countries produced 2.921 million tonnes of steel, down 9.4 percent from 3.223 million tonnes in October 2013. Steel production of the CIS countries decreased by 6.3 percent to 8.360 million tons compared to 8.922 million last year.

Total crude steel production in North America rose 0.3 percent from 10.182 million tonnes in October 2013 to 10.212 million tonnes in October this year. The total production of crude steel in the South American region in October this year increased by 0.5 percent to 3.997 million tons. African countries produced 1.255 million tonnes of steel, decreasing production by 10.1 percent from 1.396 million tonnes achieved in October 2013.

Total steel production in the Middle East in October this year was 2.490 million tonnes, up 8.4 percent from a capacity of 2.298 in October 2013. Steel production from Asian countries increased by 0.6 percent from 91.563 million tons to 92.094 million tons. Oceania's total crude steel production rose 12 percent from 0.459 million tonnes in October 2013 to 0.514 million tonnes in October this year.
