Steel production in Asia rose slightly in October

Steel output from Asia rose 0.6 percent year-on-year in October, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association.

China's total crude steel production during October was 67.516 million tonnes, a slight drop of about 0.3 percent compared to October 2013 production. India produced 7.080 million tonnes of steel, up 8.5 percent from 6.523 million tonnes achieved during October 2013.

Japan reported a slight decrease in average monthly crude steel output in October. Japan's steel production fell from 9.527 million tonnes in October 2013 to 9.362 million tonnes in the same month this year.

South Korean steel production rose 4.5 percent in October 2014 to 6.166 million tons from 5.899 million tons in October 2013. Taiwan's October steel production rose 4.8 percent to 1.970 million tons, up from 1.881 million tons in the same month last year.

Steel production in the first ten months of 2014 in thousand tons compared to the same period in 2013 in percentage was: China 685346 (+2.1); India 69492 (+2.5); Japan 92491 (+0.6); South Korea 59458 (+8.9); Taiwan 18908 (+1.5).
