Steel production in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) declined 6.3 percent year on year during October, according to the latest data from the World Steel Association.
Total crude steel production in Belarus rose 62.8 percent in October this year to 220,000 tons, up from 135,000 tons in October 2013. Kazakhstan produced 335,000 tonnes of steel, up 4.6 percent from 320,000 tonnes achieved in October 2013. Moldova smelted 35,000 tons of steel in a month. Total crude steel production in Russia increased slightly. The rise was 1.6 percent from 5.748 million tons in October 2013 to 5.840 million tons in October this year.
In October, there was a decline in steel production in Ukraine. The total volume of steel output from Ukraine dropped sharply. The fall reached 28.7 percent to 1.870 million tons in October 2014, compared with an output of 2.622 million tons during October last year. At the same time, Uzbekistan's steel production increased by 6.9 percent during the month.
The volume of steel production in the first ten months of 2014 in thousand tons compared to the same period in 2013 in percent was: Belarus 2092 (+8.1); Kazakhstan 3103 (+16.5); Moldova 318 (+172.9); Russia 58995 (+2.5); Ukraine 23380 (-15.2); Uzbekistan 634 (-0.4).
