The Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has announced a plan to expand and relocate its operations to build a steel rebar plant in Fredericksburg, King George, Virginia. The $ 12 million project is partnered with the Virginia Regional Economic Development Alliance to purchase land to build a rebar center at King George Industrial Park.
The project involves the creation of an access railroad track, which will be funded by the State Department of Rail and Public Transportation. In addition, the Vacancies Investment Program will provide assistance in training company employees.
SMS intends to add rail tracks near the facility at a cost of about $ 800,000, of which $ 150,000 will be funded by the district. The CMC also said that all current jobs will be retained. In addition, the expansion of work activities will lead to an increase in the number of permanent jobs. Observers said there is a possibility of completion of the new plant in May 2015.
