The EU steel industry group, Eurofer, wants to impose a tax on imports of Chinese rebar, due to unfair pricing of products, which could lead to tensions in trade relations between Europe and China.
Eurofer decided to take action against trade in rebar below intrinsic value in about 28 countries. The head of Europer Carl Tachelet told the media that Chinese rebar traders practice dumping and, therefore, it is certainly necessary to respond to this practice.
Eurofer claims that a large volume of rebar imports are shipped to the UK, where China covered almost 20 percent of the market in the first quarter of 2014, which is significantly higher than in 2013, and in the second quarter, imports of rebar from China have already increased to 36 percent. preliminary data continued to grow further throughout 2014
Tachelet, said the metals industry would make a decision in early 2015 on how to retaliate against China's unfair trade. The industry will present its requirements to the European Commission, which should take the necessary measures.
He also added that before making a decision, it is necessary to investigate the situation in detail. The steel industry group must first check many of the other ancillary items before submitting its claims to the commission. The group should be well prepared on all aspects of the issue, as it is a priority for European metallurgists.
