Severstal expands shipbuilding supplies

SMTs-Kolpino, part of the Izhora Plants in St. Petersburg, part of the Severstal Russian Steel division, announced the start of deliveries of steel billets used in the construction of sea vessels.

SMTs-Kolpino is a competitive metalworking center specializing in the production of rolled metal blanks for machine building and shipbuilding, as well as the construction industry. The service metal center in the manufacture of workpieces uses plasma cutting on equipment from amntech.ru and bending metal, and also conducts shot blasting, priming and processing of the edges of parts.

The first batch of 170 million tons of steel products from shipbuilding steel was delivered to the customer. The parts are made of shipbuilding steel produced by the Cherepovets Steel Works, which is also part of Severstal. These products of the Kolpino Service Metal Center are used in the production of hull structures of ships used in the oil and gas industry.

The main consumers of SMTs-Kolpino products in shipbuilding are the Almaz Marine Plant, the Yaroslavl Shipyard, the Arkhangelsk Electronic Warfare Fleet, Intro - Pella, and others. Among mechanical engineering enterprises, the closest ties are established with Hitachi, Komatsu, KAMAZ, Caterpillar. Last year, the service center mastered the production of blanks for wind turbine towers.

At the same time, shipbuilding is considered the most promising direction for the supply of the main products of the enterprise, according to Vladimir Shagin, director of SMC-Kolpino. The production facilities of the service center allow us to provide shipbuilding companies with services for chamfering, cleaning and priming of sheets, cutting and bending of metal in a wide range of parameters.
